Runica have been making music since 2006. Diverse influences have come together
to create a unique sound. The backbone of Simone’s double-bass driven,
metal-influenced drumming, the varied alternative sounds of Paul’s bass and
Mark’s guitar intertwined with Stephan’s charismatic stage performance and
melodic vocals, culminate into the distinctive experience that is Runica.
Since beginning to gig in 2007, we have toured throughout
Gauteng and beyond, played various music festivals, fashion shows, charity
events, theatres productions, acoustic performances and have appeared alongside
such names as Sheep on Drugs, NFD (ex-members of Fields of the Nephilim), Arno Carstens’ New
Porn, Terminatryx, Sacrifist, Wickhead, Cutting Jade ANKST and Pestroy to name a
few.
Simone brings vast technical and theoretical knowledge to the band. Mark and
Paul have been writing songs and playing in bands together for 9 years. Stephan
comes from the Gothic background of the band Silex and won various accolades for
vocals including a silver medal in the prestigious World Championships of
Performance Arts. This combined experience, training and dedication to music
delivers a passionate platform to the unified mind and heart that is Runica.
We draw inspiration from many varied sources, and are interested in a wide range
of genres. We converge this all organically into a unique and powerful sound,
with lyrics that deal with a wide range of issues.
Runica needs to be felt as much as heard to be enjoyed.

Stephan -
Vocalist and songwriter:
Stephan studied Fine Arts and Performing
Arts before joining his first band, Silex, as lead vocalist in 1998. He works as
a Buyer for Look & Listen, and Dj’s on a regular basis as a sideline interest.
Stephan is a fine artist that specializes in custom murals, painting and
sculpture.
Other interests include music, pagan religions, cults and fetishes.
Stephan joined Runica in 2006 and added a unique voice and song-writing ability
to the band.

Simone -
Drummer, songwriter, backing vocalist and keyboard-player:
Music has always been a part of Simone's
life. She taught herself to play the piano and sing at the age of 10. She took
music as a subject in high school (piano and vocal training) and began learning
the theoretical part of music.
The template of metal’s powerful rhythmic
beats gave her a template to forge her own drumming talent.
At the age of 16, her interests began to
turn to drums. She studied music, earning her a BA Music Degree.

Mark -
Guitarist and songwriter:
Mark has been playing music and been
involved in bands and music since 1999, through school and University days.
The eventual formation of Runica has given him the outlet he needed for his
passion for music and songwriting.
Other interests include psychology, philosophies, languages and most pathologies
which contributes to lyrical content.

Paul -
Bassist and songwriter:
Paul essentially started the band with Mark that would give birth to Runica, through
playing with many talented musicians that unfortunately didn't fit the unique
style of music.
Currently many of Runica's songs, music and
lyrics, were brought in by Paul as ideas that the band would then work together
to complete into the songs.
Paul is a self-taught bassist that draws inspiration from all energies, positive
and negative, in life. Other interests include: Literature, photography, body
modification and all types of music.
